Commuters on Tuesday struggled to navigate stretches of east Bengaluru, especially around the Outer Ring Road (ORR), as evening rain coupled with ongoing storm-water drain works left roads flooded. The situation was so severe that the stretch between K.R. Puram and Iblur Junction witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic, leaving commuters stranded for more than an hour. In certain parts of the stretch, commuters were seen getting out of their vehicles to clear the water.A senior traffic police officer told The Hindu that multiple points were flooded along the ORR stretch, Marathahalli, and K.R. Puram Road, slowing down traffic. “The stretches witnessed knee-deep level flooding, forcing us to divert traffic. Both the main carriageway and the service lanes were clogged,” the officer said. The officer noted that the Devarabeesanahalli Junction was the worst hit, with flooding on both carriageways. The ripple effect of the paralysed traffic on the ORR was felt on other stretches that bore the additional burden, but the situation did not improve. Other affected stretches included HAL Airport Road, Kadubeesanahalli Road, Bellandur-Doddakanelli Road, Bellandur Main Road, and Mahadevapura Main Road.Commuters took to social media to express their frustration and shared videos and pictures of clogged roads. Devaraj Nadiger, an X user, wrote, “The government had so many months to fix flooding on ORR, yet every year the same story. Ok, let the CM take the oath first; people who voted can wait for their basic infra.”“The ORR curse where the cars don’t even move for one hour,” wrote Vedant Kulkarni, another X user.
