The Mysuru district police on Tuesday announced a ‘Locked House Beat System’ initiative to prevent burglaries in houses when its occupants are out of town.Addressing a press conference in Mysuru, Superintendent of Mysuru District Police Mallikarjun Baladandi said the citizens have to alert the police before locking and leaving their houses and provide certain details. The citizens can contact the police through the WhatsApp number 8277954000. The QR code shared by the police will lead to a Google Form, using which the citizens will have to provide details of their house, name, mobile number, address, date of leaving the house, date of returning, location of the house through Google maps and a selfie in front of the house to clearly identify the house.Mr. Baladandi, who assured complete confidentiality of the information shared by the citizens, said the information will be shared only with the police personnel on the beat. The night beat police personnel will keep a watch on the house and ensure that no theft is committed in the absence of the occupants of the house. “If any attempt is made to burgle the house in the absence of the occupants, we will be able to catch them red-handed,” Mr. Baladandi said. While assuring that the information shared by the citizens will not be misused, Mr. Baladandi said a separate cell will be set up in the Mysuru District police control room to oversee the initiative.
