Nintendo Music might be the strangest music app on the Play Store from a well-known developer, but you can’t say the company hasn’t given it the support it deserves. The gaming giant’s music app is getting a big update, and it means you’ll be able to roleplay Mario Kart in real life — hopefully while still following the rules of the road.
Nintendo is adding Android Auto (and, for iPhone users, CarPlay) support to the app, meaning it’ll appear on your car’s in-dash display right next to apps like Spotify and, well, a particularly familiar-looking app from Google. According to today’s announcement video, the company’s gone all in on making sure the app works on par with traditional music apps, even adding voice control support to pull up particular songs or moods. The example seen in the video has an Animal Crossing: New Horizons song being pulled up after the driver asks for something rainy.
The car might sound like a strange place to blast your favorite gaming soundtracks, but it’s clear Nintendo is taking this app seriously. In addition to Android Auto support, Nintendo Music is also finally getting a tablet-friendly UI and a web browser portal, meaning you can basically listen to your favorite Mario tunes practically whenever, wherever. You know, unless you’re gaming — Nintendo Music still doesn’t actually exist on the Switch or Switch 2.
