The convicts, 20-year-old Uways Hussain and 23-year-old Usmon Mahmood, received their sentences after being found guilty in connection with the fatal March 2026 crash on Kingsway.

According to a statement released by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Hussain was handed an 11-year and eight-month prison term, while Mahmood was sentenced to 12 years and nine months.

Legal experts note that Mahmood’s conviction marks a historic milestone in UK traffic law. It is believed to be one of the first instances in the United Kingdom where a passenger has been found guilty of aiding and abetting death by dangerous driving.
