Bafana Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele and head of security Mdu Mbatha are set to depart for the team’s Fifa World Cup campaign, starting in Mexico, on Tuesday after finally securing their visas.
SABC Sport reported on Tuesday that Safa president Danny Jordaan confirmed the duo have finally received their travel documents to go to the global showpiece, following the association’s administrative debacle on Sunday morning.
Bafana were scheduled to depart for Pachuca, their base in Mexico City, on Sunday, but their travel was halted after reports emerged that more than 20 personnel of the team, including players and the technical team, still lacked the proper visas.
Sport Minister Gayton McKenzie was openly critical on social media after the report, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to lambaste the association for being incompetent, calling the incident an embarrassing act by SAFA.
