One of the ultimate pieces of World Cup memorabilia will hit the auction block later this month when the shirt Pelé wore in the 1958 final between Brazil and Sweden will be sold at auction through Sotheby’s, carrying an estimated value of more than $6 million.Bidding will open June 29 and end July 16, three days before this summer’s World Cup final. This jersey should become the highest priced piece of Pelé memorabilia ever sold and could challenge the record for the most expensive soccer jersey sold, which is held by Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” shirt that sold for $9.28 million in 2022.A 17-year-old Pelé scored twice against Sweden in 1958 and remains the youngest player to appear and score in a World Cup final. Brazil won 5-2, claiming the nation’s first of five World Cup titles. The museum auctioned it off in September 2004. The buyer, who paid around $105,000 for the shirt, is selling it more than 20 years later.
