June is here, and your favorite football team is booked and busy. Although many schools have already begun to host official visitors this spring, June is when things pick up in earnest as thousands of prospects flock to college campuses with their junior years coming to a close. This is the month that will set the stage for the early signing period in December. Commitments are coming. Dominoes are falling. With that in mind, here are 10 intriguing storylines we’re tracking as one of recruiting’s busiest months kicks off.Note: All rankings are from the 247Sports Composite.1. How much will Lane Kiffin lean into high school recruiting?Kiffin, gearing up for his first season at LSU, has made no bones about the fact that he likes to build his teams through the transfer portal. He nicknamed himself “The Portal King” and turned Ole Miss into a national championship contender by finding and developing talent in the portal. But how much will that come at the expense of high school recruiting? The Tigers were able to sign the top two players in Louisiana in the Class of 2026 in five-star defensive linemen Richard Anderson and Lamar Brown. In the 2027 class, Kiffin has commitments from two in-state top-100 players, five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson and four-star quarterback Peyton Houston, as well as five-star edge Jaiden Bryant from South Carolina. But so far, LSU’s class lacks volume. The Tigers have only five commits in the class and just one (!) on defense. Kiffin recently hired former LSU coach Ed Orgeron — in part to help him recruit — and Orgeron’s ties to the state should serve Kiffin well. We’ll see, though, how much Kiffin leans into the high school model versus the portal route.2. Will a Texas school keep John Meredith III home? If so, which one?Meredith is the nation’s top cornerback and No. 2 prospect overall. He plays at North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, Texas, reports a 4.32-second 40-yard dash time and has essentially every blue-blood program in the country after him.Meredith narrowed his list down to six schools in March: Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas and Miami. He visited Texas A&M on Thursday and is expected to see Alabama, Texas and Ohio State. In this era of recruiting, in-state loyalties are less of a factor than ever before, but Meredith ending up out of state would be a major miss for the Aggies or the Longhorns.
