Motorola Solutions said it would pay $1.5 billion (£1.11) to acquire Israeli start-up D-Fend Solutions for anti-drone technology, at a time when private and military drones have caused increasing disruption at airports, military facilities, naval ports and elsewhere.

Motorola said securing airspace against unauthorised drones is becoming a global necessity.

D-Fend’s products help with this task by taking control of rogue drones while they are in flight, rather than other more costly or disruptive approaches involving shutting down areas, physically destroying drones or jamming their radio transmissions.
