Tip Toe, created by Russell T Davies, explores the alarming rise of homophobia through a gripping neighbour feud09:28, 02 Jun 2026A “masterpiece” thriller has left fans with ‘chills’ as they praised the show's powerful scene.‌Channel 4's latest drama titled Tip Toe premiered on Sunday (31 May) night and it has already been a hit with fans, who are hooked just two episodes in.‌The five-part series, written by Russell T Davies, follows the disturbing rise of homophobia through a tense, spiralling conflict between two neighbours that escalates to devastating extremes.‌It centres on Leo (Alan Cumming), who runs a bar called Spit & Polish in Manchester's Gay Village, and Clive (David Morrissey), his stern and troubled neighbour, with whom he's shared a boundary for nearly 15 years.The synopsis adds: "But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense. Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies in a tense, suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe."‌Writer Russell is known for addressing heavy, important subjects. His celebrated Channel 4 drama, It's A Sin, explored the devastating effects of the 1980s AIDS epidemic on young gay men in London.Now, Russell turns his attention to something similar, following the disastrous, real-world impact of online misinformation and hate.The first episode opened with a disturbing scene, where viewers saw Leo's lifeless body hanging from a lamppost.‌Adding to the haunting footage, police sirens could be heard in the distance as screams ring out below from those forced to witness the traumatic event.“Monster!
