Jun 2, 2026 – 3.29pmArtificial intelligence infrastructure start-up Firmus Technologies will fund the first new fibre-optic cable to Tasmania in 20 years as part of a deal with underwater cable company Subco that Firmus says will accelerate its AI factory build.The new cable, called Bernacchi-1, will link northern Tasmania to Subco’s new 5000-kilometre cable system linking Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
