Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon's family has found itself at the centre of a theft investigation after a woman whom the family reportedly trusted was arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh. The case came to light after a complaint was filed by Raveena's brother, film producer Rajiv Tandon, with the Juhu Police in Mumbai.According to police officials, reported by Indian Express, the accused, identified as 47-year-old Rashi Chhabaria from Khar, had formed a close relationship with the Tandon family over the years and was treated almost like a family member. She was also entrusted with helping care for Raveena Tandon's elderly mother, Veena Tandon, and frequently visited the family's residence in Juhu.Jewellery and watches reportedly missing from Raveena's family safeAs per the police investigation, the alleged theft involves gold and diamond jewellery belonging to Veena Tandon, along with two expensive wristwatches owned by Rajiv Tandon. The valuables were reportedly worth around Rs 25 lakh. The FIR states that renovation work was being carried out at the Tandon family's residence in August 2025. During this period, several valuable household items were moved for safekeeping. However, Veena Tandon's jewellery remained locked inside a safe kept in a wardrobe room connected to Rajiv Tandon's bedroom on the second floor of the house. The matter came to light on October 2, 2025, when family members reportedly opened the safe while preparing for Dussehra celebrations. They allegedly found the safe damaged and discovered that several ornaments and watches were missing.Among the missing items were gold bangles, necklaces, bracelets, lockets, rings, earrings, a diamond-studded mangalsutra, and other diamond jewellery. According to the complaint, many of these ornaments held deep emotional value because they had been gifted to Veena Tandon by her late husband during and after their marriage.Family suspected woman who had access to the houseThe report stated that the Police said Chhabaria had been visiting the Tandon residence since 2020 through mutual acquaintances. Following personal losses in her own life, including the deaths of her husband and parents, she reportedly became close to the family.Over time, she was allowed regular access to the house, occasionally cooked meals, and assisted in caring for Veena Tandon. According to Rajiv Tandon's complaint, only family members and Chhabaria were permitted access to the second floor where the safe was kept. This led the family to suspect her involvement when the valuables went missing. Rajiv Tandon alleged that when confronted, Chhabaria initially denied any knowledge of the theft. However, after the family decided to approach the police, she allegedly admitted to breaking open the safe and taking the jewellery and watches.Police officials said that she later returned the two wristwatches. However, the jewellery was allegedly not handed back. According to the FIR, Chhabaria claimed she had given the ornaments to a man named Jagdish and assured the family that the valuables would eventually be returned.Police investigation underwayDespite repeated follow-ups, the jewellery was never recovered, which led Rajiv Tandon to file an official police complaint on May 19.The complaint also alleges that Chhabaria, through an associate believed to be a police informer, threatened to implicate Rajiv Tandon in a false narcotics case if pressure was applied for the return of the jewellery.Following the complaint, the Juhu Police arrested Chhabaria on May 21. She was produced before a court and remained in police custody until May 29.Police officials have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to trace the missing jewellery and establish the complete chain of events surrounding the alleged theft.
