Three children will grow up without a father after his cousin drove drunk, crashed on an Auckland motorway and killed him.

“Have I ever killed you before?”. Those were the words Leilah Faamausili told one of her passengers when they asked her to slow down while driving on Auckland’s SH16 in May last year.

Moments later, she lost control of the vehicle before it rolled uncontrollably, ejecting one passenger and killing her cousin, Saia Ifopo.

Faamausili has now been sentenced to three years and six months’ imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to manslaughter, driving with excess breath alcohol, driving with a qualifying drug in her system and driving while disqualified.
