If Beauden Barrett is under pressure, you wouldn’t know it.
Maybe he just has a talented poker face, or maybe it’s just because, as he says, he’s oblivious to the outside noise.
However, just like his Blues side, who face the unenviable task of taking on the in-form again Crusaders in a Super Rugby Pacific qualifying final under the roof in Christchurch on Saturday, the 144 test All Black’s recent performances have spent more time under the blowtorch than in the spotlight.
Barrett might have been absent from Saturday night’s second-half capitulation against a second-string Chiefs side with a quad complaint, but before their bye in round 15, he was well below his best during losses to the Hurricanes and Crusaders.
At 35, Barrett has been around long enough to have seen it all in Super Rugby and in the international space, so it’s no surprise that little tends to faze him.
