A Southeast Asian woman was allegedly beaten with a weapon by her husband just eight days after arriving in Korea to marry him, leaving her hospitalized with severe injuries and no access to health insurance or residency status.
Amid an ongoing trial, 1,500 people submitted petitioning letters to the Suwon District Court's Seongnam branch on Friday, calling for severe punishment of the husband, according to the Women Migrants Human Rights Center of Korea on Tuesday.

The incident occurred earlier this year, when the husband repeatedly struck his wife's head at their home with a weapon, yet to be named, according to the petition. When that weapon broke, he reportedly retrieved another and continued the assault.
