The storm, which caused cyclone-strength wind gusts, caused significant damage to the state’s electricity network, with 170,000 households losing power at some point during the weather event. The suburbs that remain affected today are Palmyra, Coolbellup, Stratham, Kewdale, Yallingup, Capel, Peppermint Grove Beach, Quedjinup, Quindalup and Boyanup. There are 44 electrical hazards remaining, down from 500 at its peak. More than 80 volunteer SES members continue to respond to calls for help, mostly for water ingress, fallen trees and roof damage. 9.52amCrash reduces Kwinana Freeway to single lane By A crash on the Kwinana Freeway this morning is causing commuter chaos. The freeway has been reduced to a single lane at the Leach Highway entry in Brentwood, with some motorists outside their vehicles. Main Roads said the traffic was heavy on approach and for drivers to exercise extreme caution. The crash occurred before 7am. It’s the earliest point in the season the airline has added flights for the big dance. The flights will allow for an additional 3000 extra seats, but Qantas says it will also look to add more services closer to the finals.
