US President Donald Trump said he believes the United States could reach an agreement with Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz “over the next week”.
Speaking to ABC News, Trump said negotiations were “looking good” and suggested recent tensions linked to fighting in Lebanon had been addressed.
Trump said he has not yet approved a memorandum of understanding on reopening the strait because “I still have to get a few more points”.
He added that a peace agreement with Iran could be “even better than a military victory”, while acknowledging that negotiations remain complex and unresolved.
