Communications-services ticked up as traders sought out sectors that could benefit from the artificial-intelligence boom.
Investors initially retreated from risk-oriented sectors due to further strikes in Lebanon and Iran that suggested a lasting peace deal may yet be a remote possibility.
The response in oil markets was relatively muted, however, and equity investors waded back into technology communications services and other economically sensitive sectors.
