In a Huddle session on June 6 titled “By, for, and of the people: Good governance for Telangana,” Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will be in conversation with N. Ram of The Hindu. The conversation will range over selected aspects of governance, development, and welfare delivery, and what the Congress government has been able to achieve since the party’s victory in the 2023 Assembly elections. In Telangana, the Congress party, led by a young and energetic Chief Minister, has been able to consolidate its political standing through a resounding triumph in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and impressive wins in subsequent local body polls. But what about delivering on the Chief Minister’s ambitious agenda?The session will cover Telangana’s Hyderabad-led economic development over the past decade, with the double-digit annual growth rate ranking well above the national average. The Chief Minister will also be asked about implementation of his party’s “Six Guarantees” electoral promise, and the specifics of welfare delivery such as free bus travel for women, the scheme of 200 units of 200 units of free electricity per household, and the farm support and housing schemes.The conversation will touch upon the State’s industrial and investment policies, its fiscal crisis, the government’s social justice initiatives that have been frustrated by courts, and political questions such as Union-State relations, State rights, Delimitation, the Chief Minister’s relationship with the Governor, and with the Government of Andhra Pradesh.Mr. Revanth Reddy will also be invited to present his intermediate and long-term vision for the all-round development of Telangana as one of India’s most advanced States.
