An Arab political prisoner serving a life sentence has entered his eighth day of a hunger strike, with his health deteriorating at Sheyban Prison, a human rights organization reported.
Nazem Barihi began his hunger strike on December 11 to protest the denial of furlough, according to Karun, a human rights organization.
This is his second hunger strike in recent months.
Karun described Barihi’s health condition as critical, citing informed sources. He has been transferred to the prison clinic multiple times due to severe drops in blood pressure and general weakness.
Prison officials attempted on Wednesday to force Barihi to end his strike, but he refused and demanded to speak with security officials responsible for his case, sources said.
