Richards, however, did not play in the final due to an ankle injury and Pochettino said earlier this week it was still “too early” to know if the defender would be ready in time for the World Cup.When asked Saturday if he was confident that Richards would be fit to play, Pochettino shrugged and said he had been asking the same question to his top assistant, Jesús Pérez, and the team’s medical staff.Their answer, Pochettino said, was: “Wait, wait, wait, wait.”“It’s too early,” Pochettino said. “The next few days are going to be key, to see the possibility [if Richards will be] ready or not for the World Cup.”Richards remained back in Georgia to work on his ankle and fitness while the team traveled to Charlotte, N.C., for a 3-2 friendly win over Senegal. The veteran center back, largely considered one of the team’s most important players, was evaluated by medical staff and ultimately cleared to participate in the World Cup.
