American artist Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, known on social media as Jerry Gogosian, was found dead at age 40 at the Rosewood hotel in São Paulo on Sunday afternoon (31). The hotel confirmed the incident in a statement, saying it is cooperating with authorities and providing no further details.According to a source, pills were found on the bed where the body lay, along with a bottle of vodka and a glass on the floor. Military police and emergency services were called. The case was registered as a suspicious death by the city’s 78th Police District and is under investigation. Examinations were requested from the Forensic Institute and the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
Gogosian was an influencer with more than 145,000 followers on Instagram, where she posted satirical memes about the art market, mocking its traditions and the commodification of art. Her pseudonym combined the names of critic Jerry Saltz and dealer Larry Gagosian.
The Rosewood hotel frequently hosts guests connected to the art world.
