Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu on Monday said steps would be taken to pass a special Act in the next Assembly session to check honour killing.Speaking to reporters after visiting the victims of an attack at Nettoor in Tenkasi district in Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, Mr. Vanni Arasu said the brutal attacks on innocent people should be stopped completely. Similar attacks happened in Tirunelveli district in January. Hence, the revenue and police departments had been told to explore the possibility of opening a police outpost at Nettoor and sanction a ration shop in the area of the victims.While Ramkumar, one of the victims, had been given ₹1.30 lakh as interim solatium under the SC Act, others, all Christians from oppressed community, would also be given due assistance after taking up the issue with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.He said the liquor shops near Nettor and other communally sensitive areas would be closed. Steps would be taken to enact law in the next Assembly session to check honour killing.
