MANILA, Philippines — “Let the Senate go quiet.” This was Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano’s challenge to the minority senators on Monday.
His word came after majority Sen. Jinggoy Estrada was arrested at the Senate premises on Monday afternoon amid a plunder case filed against him at the Sandiganbayan.

In a social media post addressed to the members of the minority bloc, Cayetano said: “The independence of this institution, and the legal standing of any of its members, are not currencies. The day they become things to be traded, is the day that the senate is diminished.”
