Cognizant on Monday announced the creation of two new job categories — the Frontier Certified Engineer and Frontier Business Operator — purpose-built for the AI era.The company said the roles are designed for a new generation of talent at the forefront of enterprise AI transformation. Both roles are developed and certified through SkillSpring, Cognizant’s proprietary training platform. Frontier Engineers will work directly with client organisations to realign business processes for an AI environment. “The role requires both strategic thinking and technical fluency, making it one of the most consequential pivot points into the AI-era workforce,” Cognizant said. Frontier Business Operators will be tasked with taking full ownership of operational results, they will manage a blended workforce of human and digital agents to drive business outcomes.“We are making a deliberate bet on the next generation,” Kathy Diaz, Chief Human Resources Officer of Cognizant, said.“SkillSpring gives us the ability to rapidly develop associates who can lead in an AI-first environment.” Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said in a LinkedIn post that the urgency for such roles is clear. “Consider that 65 per cent of tasks analysed across 1,000+ professions globally are exposed to AI-led change, yet less than 10 per cent of AI capabilities are fully implemented in enterprises today. This stark AI velocity gap creates immense opportunity for those ready to act,” he said.Published on June 1, 2026
