Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, described the European Union’s statement condemning Iran's recent attacks against US-linked targets as "hypocritical" and an example of a "double standard."

Speaking on Monday, June 1, Baghaei said the European Union had condemned Iran for "exercising its legitimate right to self-defense" against unlawful US attacks—attacks that, according to him, were carried out "from the territory of a southern Persian Gulf neighboring country."

The Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that the European Union must remain committed to the principles of the UN Charter and the rule of law, which it has consistently claimed to defend, and should stop "pleasing aggressors" while blaming countries that defend themselves.

Baghaei also emphasized that the Islamic Republic's action in targeting the "origins and facilities" used in military strikes against Iran was conducted within the framework of the "right to legitimate defense." He went on to state that under international law, governments are obligated to prevent their territory and resources from being used to launch attacks against other nations.
