Traffic across the Danube Bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu will be temporarily suspended on June 4 as repair works enter a critical stage on the Romanian section of the structure. The Road Infrastructure Agency announced that the closure is required to complete work on the final 320-meter stretch undergoing rehabilitation.
According to the agency, the interruption is linked to the pouring of concrete used to connect joints between repaired bridge sections. "Traffic must be stopped for at least 12 hours to allow the concrete to gain sufficient strength and ensure a reliable connection between the bridge panels," the agency explained. Because of the technological requirements of the construction process, all traffic will have to be halted during this phase.
The restrictions will affect different categories of vehicles for varying periods. Passenger cars and other light vehicles will not be allowed to cross the bridge from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on June 4. Heavy trucks, however, will face a longer disruption, with traffic remaining suspended until 9:00 a.m. on June 5.
The RIA noted that this is not the first complete closure since the large-scale rehabilitation project began on July 10, 2024. Similar traffic stoppages have already been carried out twice during previous stages of the repair work on other sections of the bridge.
