Intense rainfall is likely across the State this week powered by the combination of multiple systems prevailing in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for 10 districts, except for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur, and Kasaragod, on Tuesday, where isolated heavy rain is likely.The intensity of rain will increase from Wednesday with the IMD warning of very heavy rain in the central parts of Kerala. An orange alert warning of rain in the range of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thrissur, with the rest of the State on yellow alert on the day.On Thursday, more than half of Kerala is likely to receive very heavy rain with the IMD issuing orange alert for eight districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur, and seven districts in central and northern Kerala on Friday.According to the IMD, conditions are becoming favourable for the advancement of southwest monsoon into more regions of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep Islands, some parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.
