The public education sector is the wealth of our country, Idukki MLA Roy K. Paulose has said. Inaugurating the Idukki district-level Pravesanotsavam at the Gandhiji English Medium Government High School near Kattappana on Monday, Mr. Paulose said that every change in the public education sector reflects a change in society, adding that the government attaches great importance to public education.“The State government is providing support to people from various sectors through education,” Mr. Paulose said. “Idukki district achieved a higher pass percentage than the State average in the higher secondary results. The parents, teachers, and students deserve congratulations for this achievement, especially given the major hurdles faced in a hilly district like Idukki,” he said.The Gandhiji English Medium Government High School is the only State government-run English-medium school in the State. Udumbanchola MLA Senapathi Venu, speaking at the event, said that students should seize the opportunity to study the English language, as it will help them secure a bright future.District Collector Dineshan Cheruvatt delivered the keynote address.Low attendanceMeanwhile, sources said that student attendance on the first day of the academic year was very low in the district’s tribal areas. According to sources, fewer students participated in Pravesanotsavam at schools across the tribal panchayat of Edamalakkudy, including its various tribal hamlets.“The tribal settlements are situated deep inside the forests, and these areas are already experiencing extremely heavy rainfall.
