In a report published on Monday, June 1, Shargh newspaper announced the start of a "fresh wave" of disciplinary cases and the issuance of heavy sentences against students across several Iranian universities. According to the report, this trend began in March, just a few days after universities reopened, and intensified in June amid the ongoing closure of universities due to the war.

Concurrently, the Amirkabir Newsletter Telegram channel reported that 53 student organizations, publications, and bodies at Sharif University of Technology had issued a joint letter to the university president. In the letter, they protested the recent rulings by disciplinary committees and demanded a halt to the proceedings and the revocation of the issued sentences.

The signatories of the letter stated that in recent weeks, a number of students had been summoned to disciplinary committees, including for their activities on social media networks, and that initial and appellate verdicts had already been handed down to some of them.

According to Shargh, between five and seven students at Sharif University of Technology have received expulsion orders, and more than 20 students face suspension sentences ranging from one to three semesters. Some students said the summonses were issued without clear explanations of the charges, and in certain instances, the arraignment session and the verdict took place on the same day. According to the newspaper, some of the cases are linked to student activities on Telegram and X, and in one particular case, a student's profile picture was cited as a violation.
