Bidar Zilla Panchayat CEO Girish D. Badole has instructed all Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) to ensure an uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water in rural areas of Bidar district and take preventive measures to avoid gastroenteritis (GE) cases during the monsoon season.In a press release issued on Monday (June 1), Dr. Badole warned that PDOs would be held directly responsible if GE cases were reported due to contaminated drinking water. “There shall be no compromise on the quality of drinking water supplied in villages. Any negligence leading to GE cases will attract strict action against the PDOs concerned,” he said.Dr. Badole issued a series of directions focusing on water safety, conservation, and employment generation.He instructed PDOs to ensure regular cleaning and disinfection of overhead tanks using bleaching powder and to maintain hygienic surroundings at all drinking water sources. He also directed officials to clean drainage lines in villages to prevent stagnation and blockages.On water conservation, the CEO said priority must be given to sustainable water management in view of possible delays in rains. He called for the effective implementation of rainwater harvesting and the construction of check dams to improve groundwater levels. “All water conservation works should be executed effectively at the gram panchayat level with a long-term approach,” he said.The CEO emphasised on the role of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in preventing distress migration. He directed PDOs to ensure continuous employment generation at the village level based on demand and to increase person days through active implementation of works. He also instructed executive officers of taluk panchayats to closely monitor progress and its implementation.Dr. Badole said that ensuring adequate employment under MGNREGA would help curb migration from rural areas while strengthening livelihood security.
