Jinant Film & TV’s family drama “Dear You” comfortably retained its crown at the China box office during the May 29–31 weekend, grossing RMB199.4 million ($29.3 million), according to data from Artisan Gateway.

Directed by Lan Hongchun and starring Li Sitong and Wang Yantong, the word-of-mouth phenomenon has now amassed a cumulative total of $208.4 million since its April 30 release. The film centers on Grandma Ye Shurou from the Chaoshan region, whose twilight years are disrupted when her debt-ridden grandson travels to Thailand in search of his rumored billionaire grandfather. The investigation uncovers a decades-old love affair.

Zhonghe Qiancheng’s suspense thriller “Vanishing Point” was in second place, pulling in $2.6 million to push its total to $71.6 million. Directed by Cheng Wei-hao and starring Zheng Kai and Liu Haocun, the film is adapted from Bei Baokang’s novel “Sea Anemone.” The narrative unravels a web of dark, intersecting secrets within a residential building, catalyzed by the mysterious disappearance of a young boy on the winter solstice.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” moved to third place in its sophomore frame, securing $2.5 million for a cumulative take of $9.3 million.
