The Hermes Agent Challenge: 14 Community Projects Show What Open-Source Agents Can Really Do
The Hermes Agent Challenge on DEV Community officially wrapped on May 31, and the results are in. With $1,000 in prizes split across two tracks — "Build With Hermes Agent" and "Write About Hermes Agent" — the challenge drew 14 total submissions that reveal just how far the open-source agent ecosystem has come in the three months since Hermes Agent's February 25 launch.
Some highlights: an autonomous server operator that runs a developer's entire infrastructure while they sleep, a simulated town of 15 AI agents with their own economy and politics, a safety lab that stress-tests agents against organizational threats, and a "flight recorder" that catches retry storms and recursion loops before they burn tokens.
Here's everything the community built.
