After she performed in Inter Alia at Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End this weekend, Rosamund Pike refused to let the disturbance slide as she dished out some theatre etiquette12:42, 01 Jun 2026Rosamund Pike berated an audience member who she saw using their device during the performance of Inter Alia at Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End on Saturday. The actress, who plays a court judge in the show, returned to the stage at the curtain call and announced to the audience that she wanted to get something off her chest. The 47-year-old gave a quick surprise speech on theatre etiquette, with many cheering in support after she told them how about the incident.“I just wanted to say for anyone going to the theatre, it’s a huge thing that we’re trying to give you. I am trying to tell you a story, and I’m feeling you, and I hope you’re feeling me too,” the Olivier Award winner told the audience. She reportedly motioned towards the area of the stalls, but did not single out the guilty person joking that she hoped they were a doctor saving someone’s life.“Somebody was texting in this part,” she said, directing to a section of the shocked crowd. “you know who you are and I'm not going to single you out but you know it upsets the performance.“Maybe it was very important, and maybe you’re a doctor, and you’re saving someone's life, and I hope you are, but we do see these, we do feel them. I’ve got you, I feel like I’ve got to hold you all, so when I feel that and see it, it’s hard.”One of those in attendance took to X to support Rosamund following her remarks at the end of the performance: “It was an amazing show, but huge props to Rosamund Pike for calling out someone for texting.“She took time during the curtain call to point out how unacceptable it is, especially during a pivotal scene. The actors are giving a live performance right in front of you. Put your phone away for a couple of hours.”Another wrote: “Rosamund Pike calling out an audience member in the stalls section who texted during a very important/intense moment during curtain call was quite cool.”Talent agency PTC management wrote on Instagram that they stood behind her brief speech: “We absolutely stand behind every word said here at the bows, calling out an audience member texting in what must be the most emotional scene for the actors to portray!"Her decision to speak out comes after fellow actors Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman and Benedict Cumberbatch have all been forced to address behaviour in the theatre after they were all left ticked off by their actions during a performance. At least Rosamund waiting until the end of the performance, Australian actor Hugh famously stopped a Broadway show to ask someone in the crowd to stop their phone from ringing.Article continues below"You want to get that?" he said in character, after the ringing interrupted a tense moment during A Steady Rain back in 2009.
