Exchanging Bulgarian levs into euros remains free of charge in banks and post offices until June 30, according to consumer information platform “We, the Consumers,” which reminds citizens that the operation is carried out at the fixed exchange rate of 1.95583 leva per euro.
The service is available at commercial bank branches nationwide, as well as at offices of Bulgarian Posts in settlements where banking outlets are not present. The arrangement allows individuals to convert cash without fees or commissions during the remaining days of the month.
Specific limits apply depending on the institution. In banks, exchanges exceeding 30,000 leva require prior notification at least three business days in advance. At post offices, the daily free limit is set at 1,000 leva, while some larger branches can process up to 10,000 leva, provided a request is submitted three to five business days ahead.
The consumer platform noted that conditions will change after the end of June, warning that fees may be introduced by both banks and postal offices for converting levs into euros starting in July.
According to the same information, the obligation for banks and Bulgarian Posts to offer currency exchange services will remain in place until the end of 2026. However, refusal to carry out the exchange will only be possible if post offices do not have sufficient cash available.
