Amanda Donaghey lost her son, Fiongal, and his husband, Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, who died in the Air India crash last year11:16, 01 Jun 2026Updated 11:36, 01 Jun 2026The mother of Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, who died in the Air India crash, is yet to find his remains.Fiongal and his husband Jamie were among the 242 people on board the flight, which crashed on 12 June 2025, soon after taking off for London Gatwick from Ahmedabad.Amanda Donaghey appeared on Monday's This Morning, where she emotionally spoke with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard about her son.Ben and Cat also shared their fond memories of Fiongal, who had once appeared as a guest on This Morning. Before the interview began, Cat shared, "The first time that we met him, he gave us a little bell, and some crystals, and some sage. I've still got mine."And he went around the studio, and he's like, 'Is that all right? Is that all right?' I was like, 'That's more than all right, you are just a gorgeous human being'."Recalling the heartbreaking moment she found out there had been a crash, Amanda said, "I was out in the morning and heard there had been a crash, and wasn't overly concerned for me because I thought they'd come home a couple of days earlier. I got in, and then the phone rang."When asked how she reacted, Amanda went on, "I went straight into screaming, actually. Just screamed and screamed. When that scream stopped, I just had to go there. I felt a very strong need to go and bring him home."I got a plane and went straight to the hospital, two days getting there, and gave a blood sample to help with the matching. I was very well supported by the High Commission and the Red Cross."She added, "I was kindly allowed to go to the crash site, which I did repeatedly. The devastation was enormous. Everyone saw the explosion that happened in the air, but the size of it made it all very real."Ben chimed in, "So, you are desperately trying to find Fiongal, his remains, and what was that process like? And when did you eventually get told that they'd tracked him down and you could take him home?"Amanda explained, "I got a call to say they've been a positive match, and I wanted to read the autopsy, and the amazing disaster response team from England were kind enough to say that they will go through that with me, and we had partial remains."I could bring those home if I wanted, but it felt wrong. I wanted to wait to see if we could find more, so I stayed until I was told clearly by the authorities that there was nothing left to find.""So then you returned to England with what you thought..." Cat said to which Amanda replied, "With a casket labelled Fiongal and all the paperwork that went with it."She added, "I got a phone call in England. The coroner checked the DNA, and there was no Fiongal in the casket. It was some poor other person."When asked how that could have happened after she gave DNA when she was in India, Amanda emotionally said, "There was no facility there to properly conserve the bodies, and there was a sanitary problem. As I understand it, remains were taken and incinerated for public health reasons."Ben asked, "Where are you with tracking down what happened, or being a clearer suggestion of where he might be?""The family has been to everyone from Keir Starmer to David Lammy... We didn't get access early, and nothing. We've had no response and no answers," the heartbroken mother stated."I went there to get him, and I failed."Article continues belowThis Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
