Korea’s exports hit a record $87.75 billion in May as a semiconductor boom pushed chips’ share of total exports above 40 percent for the first time, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources on Monday.

Korea’s monthly exports in May of this year rose 53.2 percent compared to the same month of last year. Monthly exports have surpassed the $80 billion threshold for three consecutive months since March.

Average daily exports came to $4.28 billion in May, up 60.7 percent from a year earlier. It marked the first time daily exports exceeded $4 billion. The figure is calculated based on 20.5 working days.
