A 15-year-old aspiring cricketer lost his life in a tragic accident during a summer camp in Barshi town, located in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, on Saturday morning. The teenager was fatally crushed under a heavy pitch roller that was being moved by a group of children without proper supervision.Police Register Case Against Coaches, OrganisationsFollowing the incident, the Barshi city police filed a case against two coaches and two organisations, including a local cricket association. The charges have been registered under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). However, no arrests had been made until late Sunday evening.Victim Identified as Class 9 StudentThe deceased, Aarav, also known as Viren Chaudhary, was a Class 9 student who was about to enter Class 10. He had reportedly convinced his father to enrol him in the cricket camp to pursue formal training and follow his dream of becoming a cricketer.Incident Occurred During Pitch LevellingAccording to police, the accident took place around 7:30 am when children at the camp were asked to level the pitch using a heavy roller, equipment that is typically operated under adult supervision.Police Statement on the IncidentMahesh Galgate, sub-inspector at Barshi police station, said: “The father of the boy told us that the incident occurred around 7.30am. Around 12 to 15 children were asked to level the pitch. Aarav slipped, and the heavy roller went over him. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The postmortem analysis is reserved. His father claimed that there was no supervisor to monitor the children and, that, this amounted to gross negligence. We are investigating the case. So far, we have not arrested any one.”Allegations of Negligence Under InvestigationPolice sources confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. The boy’s father has alleged that the absence of proper supervision at the camp led to the fatal accident, raising serious concerns about safety measures and accountability.
