A crawly, that very much appears to be a live scorpion, has been discovered at a home in Auckland.

The discovery was shared in a video post on the Instagram page Lazy Susan, which is run by food and travel writer Anna King Shahab.

In the video, Shahab said the creature was found alive in the bathroom, but it later died, and she had contacted the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).

MPI confirmed to Stuff that a member of its biosecurity surveillance team had collected the sample, and it was indeed dead. They said it would be taken to their lab for formal identification by MPI entomologists.

In a statement, Nick Ward, MPI Manager Biosecurity Surveillance (plant health) said scorpions occasionally enter New Zealand as “hitch-hiker pests” and are considered a low biosecurity risk.
