Tata Motors is an Indian automobile manufacturing company with its headquarters based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Founded in 1945 as a locomotive manufacturer, it was then known as TELCO (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company). The company launched its first commercial vehicle, the TMB 312 truck, in 1945 and later entered the passenger vehicle segment with Tata Mobile in 1988-89 followed by Tata Sierra in 1991. In the upcoming years, the company launched some popular models like Tata Sumo, Tata Safari, Tata Indica, Tata Indigo, and Tata Nano. In 2009, Tata Motors took over Jaguar Land Rover - the British luxury automaker. It has also ventured in the electric car business, the most popular car being the Nexon EV. It also produces sports cars, coaches, trucks, buses, and military vehicles.
