President Donald Trump over the weekend claimed that most people don’t know how to spell a basic word as he explained his latest insult. “I take the ‘b’ off because most people don’t know that dumb ends with a ‘b’ but most people don’t know,” the president insisted as he shared why he now refers to Democrats as “Dumocrats.” “I switch the ‘e’ with a ‘u’ and you have a Dumocrat,” he told daughter-in-law Lara Trump during a Fox News interview, saying he was inspired by watching House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.). “He’s a dumb person, and I said, ‘he’s really dumb,’ I said ‘wait a minute, he’s a Democrat!’” he said. “So I think it works.” Trump said he wasn’t sure if the word would get as much traction as some of his other insults. But he is trying his best to make it happen, as he uses it not just when speaking but on social media ― and used it several times on Truth Social after the interview aired, including in this message posted on Sunday evening: Donald Trump on Truth SocialDonald TrumpHis critics on social media, however, weren’t impressed by the presidential spelling lesson:— Dave Hale - Concerned Republican (@CountryFirstRep) May 31, 2026I keep watching this. This is the very definition of how stupid this man actually is. A man fascinated that there is a b at the end of dumb, has the fate of this planet in his hands. https://t.co/sS94CpC9Ky— Eugene (@ScienceDJX) May 31, 2026The President of the United States is overtly proud of a kindergarten insult and newfound knowledge about silent letters. 'Truly The Dumbest': Trump Mocked After Baffling 'Most People Don't Know' Claim
The president offered up a spelling lesson during a TV interview.
Trump coined "Dumocrats" on Fox News, basing the insult on his claim that the silent "b" in "dumb" is unknown to most people. The episode generated viral mockery but holds no policy or technology signal for enterprise decision-makers.
