TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Liverpool officially announced the departure of Ibrahima Konate after his contract expired on June 30, 2026. The French defender left Anfield on a free transfer after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with the club."Liverpool can confirm that Ibrahima Konate will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract this summer," Liverpool said in a statement on their official website on Sunday, May 31, 2026.Konate's decision to leave had actually been apparent for the past few seasons, as negotiations for a contract extension became increasingly difficult. Liverpool reportedly opened talks over a new contract since the end of 2023, but discussions between the two parties failed to reach a consensus.Konate then delivered an emotional farewell messageto Liverpool and its supporters. He reflected on his five-year spell with the Reds as one of the most rewarding periods of his career."Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams. He played a key role in Liverpool's success in winning the 2024/25 Premier League title.Konate's departure adds to the list of key players who left Liverpool in the summer of 2026. Previously, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson had also parted ways with the club.Salah is known to have terminated his contract early and announced his departure some time ago.
