A crew member has been missing in the Southern Ocean for three days after reportedly going overboard a fishing vessel.
Stuff understands the person went overboard trawler vessel Nereus around 96 nautical miles east from the Auckland islands.
Maritime NZ said its Rescue Co-ordination Centre (RCCNZ) was alerted around 8.30pm on Thursday after a person went overboard a commercial fishing vessel.
An on-water search and broadcast distress relays were initiated by RCCNZ through the Maritimes Operations Centre, a spokesperson said.
“The crew member has not been sighted since falling overboard,” the spokesperson said, adding that Maritime NZ is investigating the incident.
