In a statement issued on Sunday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police said security and intelligence agencies had reviewed the situation and were taking necessary steps to maintain peace and protect lives and property.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has urged Nigerians to remain calm amid reports of xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians in South Africa, warning against any form of reprisal attacks on South African nationals, businesses, or interests within Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police said security and intelligence agencies had reviewed the situation and were taking necessary steps to maintain peace and protect lives and property.
According to the statement, the review followed a Joint Intelligence Board meeting held on May 18, 2026, and chaired by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
“After the Joint Intelligence Board Meeting on 18 May 2026, chaired by the National Security Adviser, security and intelligence agencies conducted a comprehensive review to assess security implications and determine necessary response measures,” the statement said.
