The Gunners returned home from Budapest after losing the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain and took to the streets in an open-top bus to celebrate their domestic triumph with supporters.Thousands of fans lined the north London streets around Arsenal's Emirates Stadium to celebrate the Premier League title and the women's side winning the Champions Cup. The area ground to a halt and turned red before the double-decker buses crawled around Islington. And while it mainly passed off without issue, the Metropolitan Police have now reported nine arrests on charges including drunk and disorderly behaviour, drugs offences, sexual assault and assaulting emergency workers. There were around 500 police working at the event, which they described as one of their biggest of the year.Meanwhile, the London Fire Brigade were also busy, with a flare causing a fire in a hotel while “approximately 75 people” had to be rescued from heights.Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne, the strategic event commander for LFB, said: "Fortunately, the fire caused only a small amount of damage to the exterior of the building. Pyrotechnics are also believed to have triggered the fire alarms at several other locations in the area."As supporters head home, we would urge them to avoid using pyrotechnics, particularly at stations, and to keep them away from buildings and other flammable materials."Goulbourne added that the event was a “fantastic sight” and that the majority of the fans were “celebrating their club’s achievement safely”.Mikel Arteta and his players showed off the Premier League trophy during the event, which had DJs and other live entertainment for fans. The air was filled with red flare smoke, a party atmosphere and vuvuzelas. After gridlock at the surrounding tube stations, things began to clear up late in the afternoon, allowing the crowds to disperse. A major clean-up operation was then kickstarted, with all the litter needing to be tidied up.Arsenal said on their website prior to the event: "The health and well-being of our supporters and community is our utmost priority throughout our celebration. The parade is being organised and delivered in collaboration with Islington Council and multiple partners, including the police, TFL and other emergency services.Article continues below"There will be stewards along the route to help manage crowds, provide directions and offer assistance, with barriers and cordons in place to keep people safe."You may notice an increased police presence in and around Islington on the day, which is normal for an event of this size. Officers will be working with supporters, local businesses and the public throughout to provide a reassuring presence for everyone attending."
