Commuters and indigenes of Awgu and Oji River Local Government Areas of Enugu State have been thrown into deep distress after a major section of the Oji–Awgu Federal Highway collapsed, isolating several agrarian communities and separating families.

The collapsed section of the strategic federal corridor was entirely washed away by a mudslide and flash flood triggered by a torrential rainfall that battered the state on Friday night.

The structural failure has completely paralyzed vehicular and pedestrian movement, leaving thousands of travelers stranded and cut off from essential markets, health facilities, and economic livelihoods.

Frustrated residents who spoke to journalists at the site of the collapsed highway lamented that the development has split neighbouring communities in half, making it impossible for families to connect or transport local agricultural produce across the subregion.
