The bodies of all the five persons who drowned in Tungabhadra river near Mantralayam on Saturday evening were retrieved by rescue workers on Sunday. Rescue workers also fished out the body of an unidentified person during the search.The five deceased, hailing from Anantapur and Kurnool districts and Hyderabad in neighbouring Telangana, came to Mantralayam to attend a family function. After attending a religious ritual, they, along with some others, entered the river waters.The tragedy occurred when six members were swept away by currents as they entered deep inside the river after reportedly misjudging the depth of the water. While five persons drowned, Aparna of Adoni managed to come out of the waters.Assisted by expert swimmers and local fishermen, the rescue teams searched for the victims throughout the night and managed to trace them by Sunday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Satish (35) and his five-year-old son Yuvan Chandra from Hyderabad, Raghavendra (25) and Dhanu (23) from Mantralayam, and Sandhya (22) from Uravakonda in Anantapur district. Police said the bodies were recovered from different locations downstream the river and were handed over to family members after formalities.Meanwhile, the rescue workers recovered the body of an unidentified person aged around 70 during the search operation.
