Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson H.A. Venkatesh has hailed outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for setting an “excellent example in contemporary politics” by handing over power smoothly and gracefully.After steering the Congress government in Karnataka — which came to power on the strength of the five guarantee schemes — for three years and then relinquishing authority with remarkable ease, Siddaramaiah has once again proved his commitment to principled politics, said Mr. Venkatesh in a statement here on Sunday.“At the same time, through a compassionate, welfare-oriented administration, rooted in social justice and dedicated to the well-being of all sections of society, he has created a model path for emerging leaders to follow,” he said.Having successfully implemented the guarantee schemes and drawn attention from across the world, Siddaramaiah emerged as a beacon of hope for the poor, he said, while adding that the longest serving Chief Minister of Karnataka had used the vast opportunities of his political career in the service of the people. “The people of the State affectionately call him “Annaramayya” (elder brother Ramayya). With his uncompromising character and exemplary conduct, the veteran statesman has succeeded in securing a permanent place in the hearts and minds of the people of Karnataka,” he said.Mr. Venkatesh pointed out that credit must also go to senior Congress leader and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar, who, he said, “was instrumental in designing the guarantee schemes and, for the first time in the country’s electoral history, using them as a key plank to bring the Congress government to power in Karnataka in 2023.” “Likewise, G. Parameshwara, chairman of the KPCC Campaign Committee, helped shape the party’s electoral strategy and successfully took the guarantee schemes to the people, while playing a crucial role in securing the Congress party’s victory and in laying the foundation for the success of the government,” he said.The KPCC spokesperson has hoped that under the leadership of party-loyal D.K. Shivakumar, “who has emerged as a promising leader of the future”, and the seasoned administrator G. Parameshwara, “known for his grassroots governance experience”, the Congress government will provide even greater assistance to the people and make a significant contribution towards fulfilling the aspirations and expectations of the people of Karnataka.
