A United States Congressman, Lloyd Doggett, has accused President Donald Trump of negotiating what he described as a "corrupt" agreement with officials in his own administration to shield himself, his family and hundreds of affiliated businesses from future tax audits.
Doggett, a Democrat representing Texas, made the allegation while addressing Congress, according to a video clip he shared on his X account on Saturday.
The lawmaker said he had filed an amendment seeking congressional oversight of what he described as an unprecedented settlement arrangement that would allegedly prevent tax authorities from conducting audits of Trump's tax returns.
According to Doggett, the agreement was negotiated by Trump's personal criminal defence attorney, who now serves within the U.S. Department of Justice.
