The Youth Mental Health Department of the Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF) completed five years of work with youth across different settings — such as schools, colleges, and child care centres — dealing with abused, neglected children and those in conflict with the law, Shiva Prakash Srinivasan, head, Youth Mental Health Services, SCARF, said.Over 3,000 youth were treated in the outpatient department, 15,000 schoolchildren were reached and more than 200 doctors trained. Taking part in the occasion, Aditi Balan, actor, spoke of the need she had felt as a student to have accessible counselling services and advocated the establishment of such centres in all educational institutions.Alluding to increasing stress in corporates, Rajeev Macheri, entrepreneur and investor, stressed the need to extend emotional support to the youth.
