The Revenue and Police officers supervised the eviction of an encroachment on a waterbody in Virudhunagar district.According to a press release issued here on Saturday, a petitioner Ravi Sekaran had filed a writ in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. In his petition, he had stated that an oorani in Keezhanmarainaadu village was encroached by an individual.Based on the court directions, the revenue authorities inspected and found that the petitioner was correct. Though the encroacher had sought issuance of patta, the revenue authorities led by RDO Sattur and District Revenue Officer had directed the encroacher to immediately vacate.Failing to obey the orders, when the petitioner moved the HC Bench for contempt, the court ordered the authorities to file its response after eviction by June 5, 2026.Complying with the direction, the police provided bandobust and the revenue authorities demolished the structure built on the waterbody and restored it to the original position. “We will file a detailed report in the court as per the order,” a revenue official said.
